Best Robot Vacuum Cleaners 2020 Alexa Compatible/Hands Free
I hope you’ll agree with me when I say “vacuuming is boring and time consuming.”
So why not have a robot vacuum cleaner about the size of a large dinner plate clean your house for you?
Let’s face it, vacuuming isn’t fun at all. However, it’s necessary for most of us. It’s also just as hard especially if you just started going to college or living on your own.
That’s why I created a list of the top 10 best robot vacuum cleaners of 2020. These can clean pet hair and carpet. They’re also very good for hardwood floors.
Some of them are even Alexa compatible. Don’t worry you don’t need to own Amazon Alexa in order to use them. The robot vacuum cleaners are hands-free because once you press the “clean” button you can sit back and watch it clean for you.
It’s the year 2020 now. You shouldn’t have to do the hard work. That’s why they’re designing these high tech robots.

Best Robot Vacuum Cleaners 2020
1. iRobot Roomba 650 (Not The Premium Robot)
The first one on our list and the best one. My favorite feature about it is that all you have to do is click the clean button and it’ll start cleaning away. As with all the other ones, it cleans dust but it can also clean larger unwanted stuff like food crumbs or pet hair.
It’s not that tall. I’d say about 4 inches give or take. Better to be safe. With that being said, it’ll fit under your furniture like your bed, couch, seat, or whatever is greater than about 4 inches. This means that you don’t have to worry about vacuuming through those hard small areas in your house with your huge prehistoric vacuum.
Don’t forget that it has its own sensing set up. This means it will avoid hitting objects so it doesn’t bump into everything it sees.
Easily the coolest thing is that that robot vacuum has its own low battery detector. So when it starts to lose its battery it will simply find its way back to the charging station. It also has a scheduling feature that allows you to schedule when you want it to clean your house.
Yup you could schedule it at a certain time, leave, and come back to see the house all cleaned up. You don’t even have to worry about plugging it back in since it has its own low battery detection. Come home and it’s nice and clean. For you, your family, and for any visitors that want to stop by.
Don’t want it to clean a room? Something in that room that you don’t want to get accidentally broken? Don’t worry this robot vacuum is so smart that it’ll even not vacuum the rooms you don’t want it too. of course, you have to set it to this but after that, you could have it vacuuming one room only if that’s what you need.
The only downside to this one is that it’s not compatible with Amazon Echo aka Alexa. This isn’t a problem but it’s a lot better, in my opinion, to have it be compatible with it. This way you could finally call your home a smart home.
2. iRobot Roomba 980 (The Premium Robot) – The Best In 2020
Set what you want it to do and it’ll start working immediately. This version is compatible with Amazon Alexa. You know what that means. You are on your couch relaxing or you’re busy trying to get stuff done and all you need to do is tell Alexa to start the robot vacuum. Sweet isn’t it?
Of course, you could also access it through your mobile app. Just download the app and get it into sync with your devices and it’s fully operational from your phone.
Don’t worry about pet hair with this one too because they made sure that any hair won’t get tangled up and frustrate you.
It’s out of battery! Now I have to plug it in! Nope, it will go right back to its charging station. How useful is that? You don’t even have to get up to plug it back in. Just stay in bed and it’ll do all the cleaning for you.
Have allergies? Not a problem! It comes with a built-in HEPA filter that will filter out most particles like allergens and pollen. Although it won’t act like a filter in your house it will help manage the dust allergens that may be coming up when the vacuum is running.
Wouldn’t you prefer a robot vacuum? Instead of having to grab that big vacuum of yours and spend hours vacuuming. Your old vacuum probably doesn’t filter out potential allergy-causing particles.
The Roomba 980 is considered the best robot vacuum in 2020 because of it’s unique features and capabilities. No other robot vacuum has Alexa compatibility and a HEPA filter.
We also recently included this product in our best smart home devices post. Check it out.
3. iRobot Roomba 960 (Less Premium)
A very nice design. The gray color makes it stand out more than from the pure black color. As well as the actual product goes, it’s very good.
It’s compatible with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. This means that you could control the robot vacuum through those devices! If you already have them set up you just connect the robot with it and you’ll be able to control it using your voice. Cool isn’t it?
With the Amazon Alexa, you could tell the robot to get to work and start vacuuming. Which is more likely to do so rather than your teenager. You can also tell it to have the robot go back to its charging place.
They also offer an app for the device on your smartphone. This comes in handy because well let’s face it everything’s easier through a smartphone.
Their app allows you to do all sorts of things with the robotic vacuum. You could press the clean button through your phone and your robot with go straight to cleaning! This is really useful if you are either lazy or you have to take care of something that requires your constant attention, like a child.
Other from that there’s a lot more you could do on the app. For example, you could customize it vacuums when you want it to (scheduling). Also, if you set up any places that you don’t want your robot to go to or you set it up to where you want it to only vacuum certain rooms, you could view your custom made map out.
It’s good for sucking up pet hair. It has brushes that are specifically designed to brush it up. This also makes it easier for the machine to brush up the floors while still vacuuming.
It’s low on battery! No problem it will just go back to its recharging area to charge and once it is done it will go right back to work. It’s a lot more persistent at vacuuming the entire house then someone would be. You could be gone all day and come home to clean house.
4. Samsung POWERbot R9350 (Very Powerful)
A robot vacuum cleaner made by Samsung. It’s compatible with Amazon Alexa so you can just tell her to turn on the vacuum for you whenever you don’t feel like getting up.
They say that it has a very strong vacuuming power. No wonder why it’s bigger than the other ones. It’s still small enough to probably fit under your bed or furniture. It won’t run into anything with its sensors that detect when it’s about to hit something.
That’s the good thing about robot vacuums, they’re less likely to hit something then you are when you’re vacuuming.
They have a mobile app that allows you to control the robot from your smartphone. Which is helpful if your robot is on the other side of your house or all the way downstairs. You could also set it to where it stays in one room or does not go in a room.
In all this robot vacuum is a beast compared to the other ones on this list. It has a lot more suction power. Best of all you don’t even have to get off your chair or stop working to operate it!
5. Neato Botvac (For Pets and Allergies)
Another Neato made robotic vacuum cleaner. This one has different stats than the other one. It’s flat on the front part which helps with cleaning the sides of the walls. It’s still able to sneak under furniture and not bump into stuff.
The most interesting feature is the 2 modes that it has. One mode that is called eco a makes the vacuum stay quiet. It also vacuums for a lot longer. In case you would like to save energy or just prolong the vacuuming time. However, it isn’t as strong as the other modes because the suction power isn’t full. But it’ll be great for cleaning hard floors
The other mode is called turbo mode. The name kind of gives it away and the robot stands true to it. When you activate this mode it jumps into super suction. It picks up large debris easier and more hair. It doesn’t last as long as eco mode but if you want your house to be thoroughly clean it would be good to activate this mode.
6. Neato Botvac D80 (Different Version)
Who else agrees that black and white look cool together?
At the end of the robotic vacuum, it is flat shaped. I didn’t know why this was but then I realized that it’s so that the robot could more easily clean almost against the wall.
The flat shaped end probably allows for more pick up of dust, hair, and other stuff that vacuums clean up. It could more easily rub against the wall and clean the floor beside the wall that is so hard to clean.
It’s almost like this robot has eyes. It can map out your room and find the best path for cleaning. This way it doesn’t have to keep having to find a path. It also allows for faster and more efficient cleaning.
Even though it’s not made by the same company as the other top ones are, it’s still very good and I’d recommend it. It has most of the functions the previous ones have. Like scheduling vacuuming sessions and having the ability to return to the dock once it’s out of battery.
You could also set boundaries for where you don’t want your robot to go. Like your bathroom when you’re in there.
7. iRobot Roomba 890 (Wi-Fi Connectivity)
So many different versions of Roomba. Well this one is different because it’s newer and more powerful. Its suction power is a lot stronger than the older ones. Not to mention that its cleaning power is also very strong.
As with some of the Roomba series, this one is also Alexa compatible. Allowing you to easily control it using your voice. Amazon Alexa is owned by Amazon, hence the name. It is a voice-operated AI that is very useful and is a key product in most smart home devices.
You don’t have to have Amazon Alexa in order to operate this robot vacuum cleaner. However, it does come in handy sometimes. Especially when you are feeling a little too lazy to get off your couch to turn something on. I’d recommend getting the Amazon Alexa too but that’s not the main product we are talking about here.
The upgraded internal filter of this vacuum is able to act like other filters. The only difference is that this one is a lot smaller than filters that are meant to purify the house. Its use is to keep allergens from spreading around the house or getting off the ground while it’s vacuuming. Just a nice little bonus feature if you ask me.
With the virtual barriers you could prevent it from going somewhere you don’t want it to go. Or you could just let it keep vacuuming in a certain area. Just make sure that the charging deck is reachable! It will return to the recharging station but make sure the virtual barriers are not in the way.
8. iRobot Roomba 860 (Without Wi-Fi)
All of these vacuums seem to have a UFO design. This one especially has that color and look of a UFO. It has the futuristic looking gray color to it.
What’s the most annoying thing about vacuums? Hair getting tangled in them. Every pet owner that has to deal with pet hair will agree with this. It seems that every vacuum no matter what will always get your pet’s hair tangled up in it. Well not with this one.
It has a tangle-free mechanism that doesn’t allow pet hair or hair, in general, to get tangled up. It also prevents against large chunks of food or pet food from making the vacuum get clogged.
The last time I checked, it came with several bundles. You could get several filters to help filter the air of what is being vacuumed. This is a great bundle pack for those that have allergies. No more having to worry about the vacuum releasing allergens into the air.
The thing about all robot vacuums and with this one is that they’re all simple to use. If you don’t feel like doing anything one day and don’t want to have the hassle of taking a giant vacuum out of your garage, just press clean on the robot vacuum and you’re good to go.
9. iRobot Roomba 595 (Without Wi-Fi)
Same company, different robot. From what I could tell this is the most popular robot vacuum cleaning company. There are others but this company always seems to come up. They sell really good robotic vacuum cleaners too.
The best thing to take away from this vacuum is that it won’t fall down stairs. Yup, that’s how far technology has come. Although it might be a while before they could go up the stairs. You could have it vacuum upstairs without having to worry it might fall down. It uses its sensors to tell if it is about to fall off of stairs or something.
It has all the other features the previous one had but the main difference is that it won’t fall off stairs.
It also comes with the classic scheduling option for when you don’t want it to vacuum immediately. Or you could use it to schedule the vacuuming that needs to be done for the week. So then once you schedule it you don’t have to worry about vacuuming for a whole week!
It sure does clean the floor very well through its whole process. You could check the specific process on the seller’s page. It dusts the floor first. This helps remove the dust and potential allergens that may be hiding within it. Then it uses its suction force to actually vacuum the floor and leave it without bread crumbs.
10. iRobot Roomba 690 (Wi-Fi Connected)
Prefer the old robot vacuum manufacturer? Well, this one is for you. It is compatible with Amazon Alexa so you could tell the robot to vacuum from the comfort of your bed. Or you could do the same by accessing the mobile app and scheduling or having the robot operate in regular mode by pressing clean.
As with all the robot vacuums on here, this one won’t be bumping into your furniture because of the sensors that tell it whether or not an object is in the way.
The different terrain also doesn’t matter as this will clean right through your carpet or hardwood floor. As with every vacuum though, it cleans hard and flat surfaces best because it’s easier on the machine. But the robot is more than capable of going on over time. Just be sure not to overdo it.
It will return to it’s charging station right when it finishes cleaning the designated area. After that you could choose what you would like it to do.
11. iRobot Braava 380t (Robotic Mop) – The Best Robot Mop In 2020
I know this is a top 10 best products list but I had to include it. It’s not a vacuum but it is a robot mop. This is very helpful if you would like a robot to just mop the floor and not vacuum it. It won’t make that much noise and it’s helpful.
You could set it to where it just sweeps the floors or you could have it do some wet mopping. It’s good at cleaning up dust, hair, and other stuff. It’s not as effective against larger debris which is why you get a robot vacuum to do that.
No more having to mop the floors with a broom with this one! Just set it up and it’ll go straight to mopping. When it’s out of batteries simply recharge it with its recharging station. No need to spend time or money on batteries!
I have a feeling that robotic mops are going to be gaining popularity from 2020 and forward. First it was the robot vacuums, then it will be the robot mops, I’m guessing dinner serving robots are next.
Even though is post is about the robotic vacuums cleaners, here’s another article I did that is similar to this one. It’s about the best Dyson vacuum cleaners in 2020. It has a variation of cordless and upright vacuums for every situation.
Robot Vacuum Cleaner Information – Buyer’s Guide
Now that I have listed out the top robot vacuum cleaners, I’ll tell you some more information you should take into consideration.
With a robot doing all of the vacuuming you could focus on the other things you have to do. The robots don’t require any maintenance so once you hit the clean button they are off cleaning until you turn it off. Some of them will go back to the recharging station to recharge and then they will get back to work.
Of course, you shouldn’t overuse them as that could lead to mechanical problems.
These vacuums also do a better job than all the other vacuums. Not only does it keep vacuuming but it also can go under furniture to and clean the spots we cannot reach. They are typically about 4 inches in height and a little bigger than your average dinner plate. This makes them perfect for sneaking under your bed where all that dust is lying.
You don’t even have to get up and press clean on the robot for it to work! Some offer compatibility with Amazon Alexa as well as some other AI devices so that you don’t even have to touch it for it to clean. Simply tell Alexa what you want it to do and she’ll notify it to do so.
While you are out with friends or at a party your robot will be vacuuming up your house! No work even required. There’s also a robot mop that will mop your hardwood floors clean
It will take away the dust and some small sized debris. The perfect combo would be a vacuum sucking up all that pet hair or dirt while the mop is cleaning your floors.
With whichever robotic vacuum cleaner you choose your house will be cleaner than your friend’s house. And all you’ll be doing is setting up the map outline of which you want it to vacuum.
Robot Vacuum Cleaners – What You Should Know
They offer more features that you probably don’t even know of!
For example, did you know that some of them come with a built-in air filter? No, it won’t purify the whole house but it will purify the air that it spits out. This is great for people with allergies because most of the allergens will be cleared by the air filter.
Some of the air filters may require that you replace them depending on how much you use them but that’s to make sure they remain very effective. It won’t block out all of the allergens but it will clean the filter out most of them.
No more having to deal with the air that came out the old vacuum cleaner that would cause you to sneeze.
The structure of your house also doesn’t matter. The robot knows its way around. It does this by mapping out the best direction to go for your house. It won’t bump into any furniture, although every once in a while there may be a few mess ups.
It actually will go under your belongings to vacuum under them. Since I doubt you vacuum under your bed frequently.
There is only 1 thing you have to worry about and that is stairs. Don’t worry you could set up virtual barriers to prevent the robot from tumbling down the stairs. However, some of them are able to detect the presence of stairs or places that it could fall down from.
You don’t have to really worry about stairs but the downside is that the robots are not yet advanced enough to actually go downstairs. They can detect them but they can’t travel up or down them.
This isn’t that big of a deal because you could just set it up to where it only vacuums the bottom floor. Then you could take it upstairs to vacuum the upper floor.
Robot vacuums will also most likely continue to grow in popularity from 2020 and beyond. There will be better ones which are why I will keep this list updated.
If you’re looking for a more portable and cordless vacuum, read about the best Dyson handheld vacuums in 2020.
Who Should Buy/Use a Robotic Vacuum?
Anyone could use it but there are usually several categories people fall onto. Either they are lazy, in college and don’t have time, or they want to maximize their day.
Lazy people would love this product. They can just press clean and it will go off vacuuming your whole house. You don’t even have to get up to make it work! Just tell Alexa to activate it and have it clean and you’re good to go! No vacuuming or manual labor required!
Now if you’re in college, finding out that there’s such thing as robot vacuums is probably a miracle for you. You don’t have to worry about coming home to a dirty dorm. You could come home to a nice and clean dorm.
You’re probably or at least hopefully more focused on school so no need to worry about the cleaning part of your day. It’s hands-free so you could keep on working on school while your house is being cleaned.
Onto the next person, the worker. If you want to get the most out of your day this product is for you. This is one less thing out of your busy day that is all done for you. Since you’re probably working on something else there’s no need to vacuum with this robot by your side.
No matter which person you are, we could all agree that having a dinner sized plate robot vacuum roaming around your house would be plain awesome. I mean what better thing is there to say to someone that is coming to visit your house for the first time. “Don’t mind the AI robot vacuum cleaner.”
Just the sight of it is great. Now all they need to do is make it to where it can talk. Not only would it be hilarious but it would be cool.
Another vacuum article I did is about the best Dyson canister vacuums. You could use them to clean up your hardwood floors or your carpet. I updated the article in 2020 so it is fresh.
Also in case you are interested in how robotic vacuums actually work, this article explains how they work at howstuffworks.com. It shows how they operate, what battery they use, and where the Roomba motors that help it move are.
The site howstuffworks talks about… well how stuff works. Like vacuums, robot-related stuff, and general machinery. The article I linked too did a review on how Roomba works. Not a product review but they analyzed it to see what buttons do what.
On one end the Roomba has a dirt bin where it stores all the dirt it collects from the hardwood floors or carpet. On the other end, it has a sensor that helps it navigate throughout your home without bumping into everything.
It also has the basic on and off buttons and the famous giant clean button that everyone can see. Right beside the clean button, it has the spot cleaning button. The front of Roomba also has a bumper which helps keep the robotic vacuum secure in case it bumps into something or a dog runs into it.
By the way, I may have accidentally messed up on the exact stats or abilities of the robot vacuums. So be sure to check out the seller’s page to get the exact information. Also, be sure to ask him what the maximum capabilities of the machines are and the dangers.
What Are The Cons of Robotic Vacuums?
Some people think that there are no cons at all to owning a robotic vacuum. They are wrong. There’s always a con to owning a product.
One of them is that the robot might take longer to vacuum the house than you actually would. This can or cannot matter based on why one is getting a robot vacuum.
Another con is that they can pose a slight risk to children or pets. Some of these vacuums can detect incoming objects but a dog will probably be a lot faster and he might accidentally get his paw hurt if the robot vacuum accidentally hits him.
This can be avoided by setting up the virtual barriers so that the robot vacuum only stays in one room. That way you can avoid your pet or child coming into contact with it by closing the door.
